What does “Americana” mean as a musical genre and how is it woven into the broader tapestry of traditional styles such as folk, country, blues, soul, bluegrass, gospel, etc.? What distinctive sounds and rhythms does it bring to the table of American music? These are questions you may contemplate as you listen to the rich, soulful songs of these performers, coming together for the first time in an Indy Folk Series exclusive.

Husband and wife acoustic roots duo Charlie Beck and Charmaine Slaven perform as Squirrel Butter, playing old-time, bluegrass, country blues and originals on guitar, banjo, fiddle, and feet. Feet? Yes, feet. Among Charmaine’s many musical talents is the ability to tap out intricate clogging steps while playing the guitar, creating a truly unique rhythmic experience.  

Award-winning singer-songwriter Becki Davis grew up in Indiana but now splits her time between the Midwest and New York. Her folk-rooted music blends honest, deeply-felt storytelling with a quiet sense of presence, creating an intimate live experience that invites connection and reflection. Among Becki’s outstanding musical accomplishments: A recent album, Lost and Found, that cracked the top ten of the Folk Alliance International Top Albums Chart. 

 Kaitlyn Ferry and Eliza Duffy have been performing folk music together since 2016, but as each pursued a career in mental health counseling, their songwriting grew into a deeper exploration of the human psyche. With lush harmonies, ethereal strings, and evocative lyrics drawing on the symbolism of psychoanalysis, fairytales, and spirituality, A Bright Abyss uses song and story to uncover the potential for profound growth nestled in the unconscious.

The concert will be held in the performance space of the Unitarian Universalist Church of Indianapolis, located at 615 W. 43rd. St., Indianapolis, IN 46208 (near Butler University.) Follow these DIRECTIONS to join the fun.
