Hogeye Navvy Hogmanay
New Year’s Eve Celebration with Hogeye Navvy
Saturday, December 31, 2022
Hogmanay is the Scots word for the last day of the old year and is synonymous with the celebration of the New Year in the Scottish manner. What better way to welcome the New Year than with long-time Indianapolis area favorite Hogeye Navvy!
Playing a wide variety of acoustic traditional music, including sea shanties and music of Ireland, Scotland, England, and North America, Hogeye Navvy has played together in various formations, and for more years than its members care to admit, throughout the Midwest at festivals and events, has toured Ireland and Scotland with their fans and friends, and has packed the house at the Indy Folk Series each and every time they have played here.
This will be a special holiday show, even for the Indy Folk Series. Upon arrival, you will be treated to bagpipes, Scottish Country Dancing, delicious food and drink, and revelry befitting of this celebration. Hogeye Navvy will perform with their spectacular style and wit. They will be joined by the Scottish Country Dancers, and if you are inspired to give it a try, you will be led in traditional Ceilidh style dances. When you get hungry, you can nosh on traditional Scottish fare, or try whisky and mulled wine to quench your thirst. We’ll finish out the evening with more songs, maybe a Robert Burns poem, and a candlelit procession to “Auld Lang Syne.” We’ll be ringing in the New Year, but we’ll do it well before midnight, so you can plan to go to your next party (or home) by about 10:00 pm.
Costumes, fancy outfits, or traditional attire admired and appreciated, but not required.
This event will be held in the performance space of the Unitarian Church of Indianapolis, located at 615 W. 43rd. St., Indianapolis, IN 46208 (near Butler University.) Follow these DIRECTIONS to join the fun.
