Hogeye Navvy kicks off the St. Paddy’s Day celebrations a wee bit early this March!
For those few who may be unfamiliar – Hogeye Navvy is a Celtic/American band playing a wide variety of acoustic traditional music, including sea chanteys, canal songs, traditional Irish and Scottish tunes, as well as songs of the Great Lakes, and railroad tunes. They welcome all aboard with their spirited live performances, and provide plenty of mighty fine “craic” (that’s Irish for fun!) for audiences of all ages.
Hogeye Navvy has long been a mainstay of the central Indiana Irish scene. The band has played together in various formations, and for more years than its members care to admit, throughout the Midwest at small pubs and large festival stages, and has toured Ireland and Scotland with their fans and friends.
Founded by “The Cap’n” Terry Bellner more than 35 years ago, Hogeye’s band members have changed over the years, and have always been among the finest musicians anywhere on land or sea. The current lineup includes Mac Bellner on vocals and guitar; shanty man Garren Farren on vocals and bodhran; Leslie Seldon on fiddle; Dmitri Alano on Irish flute, whistle, and Highland Pipes, and as a very special guest for this concert, Johnandrew Bellner on vocals, tenor banjo, mandolin, and guitar.
With more than nine albums in their catalogue, one of which, “Poor Old Horse” was recorded live at the Indy Folk Series in 2005, there’s a possibility that this show will be recorded as well, so come prepared to sing and clap along!
We’ve received MANY audience requests to have them back at the Indy Folk Series, and we’re delighted to oblige! They’ve packed the house every time they’ve played here, so grab your tickets early, wear some green, and come start the celebrations early with a rousing evening of good fun and great tunes with Indiana’s premier purveyors of musical mirth: Hogeye Navvy.
