Indianapolis favorite Julia Conway (bass, ukulele and vocals) and Indianapolis-to- Hawaii transplant  Katie Burk (fiddle and vocals) first joined musical forces in 2008 to develop their own take on the folk and acoustic roots music they both love.  Originally a duo, the act has has expanded to include accomplished guitarist, songwriter and arranger D. Mark Conway, and jazz influenced drummer Dan Thompson to round out the sound, As a quartet, these talented and engaging performers charm and delight audiences with their original songs, close vocal harmonies, and interesting arrangements of familiar standards.

The Half Step Sisters’ unique sound is rooted in their heartfelt original music, which showcases their passion for storytelling and creative songwriting. Their harmonies intertwine like a finely woven tapestry, creating an immersive experience that will leave you longing for more. Their seamless blend of folk, jazz, and indie influences delivers a diverse and captivating performance that transcends genres and resonates with listeners of all ages.

In 2012, The Half Step Sisters were chosen from among 1000 entries to appear on Garrison Keillor’s A Prairie Home Companion. Performing as part of the Duets Competition, the duo wowed the audience and took home third place!
